Three rounds were performed tonight; one is the contestant’s favorite from this season, two is Simon Fuller’s choice, and the third will be the song that will be released for whomever wins.

Lee DeWyze

Song 1: From inspiration Week, The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel

Randy - “A great way to start off this night.” “You sounded nice doing it but pick it up, pick it up.”

Ellen - “I couldn’t be prouder if I birthed you myself.”

Kara - “You gotta punch harder.”

Simon - “I would expect actually a lot more passion, excitement. That was a kiss on the cheek when I want a kiss on the lips, not from you.”

Song 2: Everybody Hurts by R.E.M

Randy - “You pulled it together and I could feel that Lee that I love by the end.”

Ellen - “A couple of time you really, really got into it…and then you pulled back again.”

Kara - “You’re emotionally accessible. And that I can feel every word that you’re saying.”

Simon - “You went a little bit off melody at parts.” “You’re nervous.”

Song 3: Beautiful Day by U2

Randy - “By the middle of the song, when you hit the high notes and the chores, you started to get your groove back.”

Ellen - “You were fully present for that song.” “You did a great job.”

Kara - “You got swallowed up in that song. You had some good moments and some not so good moments.” “You’ve grown the most on this show.” “You deserve to be here tonight.”

Simon - “I genuinely wish the best for you. You’re a great guy.”

Crystal Bowersox

Song 1: From Billboard #1s week, Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin

Randy - “I hope you make a record like that, it was dope dude.”

Ellen - “You are so compelling on that stage.”

Kara - “You have fire in your belly tonight.”

Simon - “This brought me back to time that we absolutely fell in love with you.” “This is you, back on your best.”

Song 2: Black Velvet by Alannah Myles

Randy - “Mama Sox is in it to win it!” “That was hot!”

Ellen - “That was fantastic!”

Kara - “You want it, you can tell.”

Simon - “You took that song and you absolutely nailed it. I’m very impressed.”

Song 3: Up To The Mountain by Patty Griffin

Randy - “This is one of the greatest performances and one of your best moments at the perfect time.”

Ellen - “You are in a league of your own.” “If you make a salad, I’ll eat it.”

Kara - “You were completely emotionally invested in that song, unlike any other night.” “You really blossomed just with that song.”

Simon - “That was by far the best performance and the song of the night and since this is the final critic I’m ever gonna give, I just want to say, that was outstanding.”

And with that, the competition is over and we just wait for the results. Crystal seemed to steal the show tonight with her rendition of Up To the Mountain, but was it enough to take the popular vote and win it all? We will have to wait for tomorrow night!

As we have all heard, after this season, Simon will be moving on and no longer on American Idol. So, that leaves Fox with the biggest decision that they need to make this summer…who will his replacement be? The bad news is that because they will be focusing on the finding a musically inclined and entertaining replacement, the auditions for the show will be pushed back later than usual, probably in September!

Over 37 millions votes were cast last night, the most of the season so far.

Fantasia, winner of the third season of American Idol in 2004, performed her song Bittersweet. The song is the new single from her album that will be landing in stores this summer, the first in three years.

Another familiar face to Idol, Daughtry performed their new song September. He was the fourth-place finalist on the fifth season. Seeing how much he has accomplished is encouraging to those do not win Idol, or even make it into the top 3.

Before revealing who was being eliminated tonight, Bon Jovi performed their song Superman Tonight. They are the #1 touring band in the world.

The Top 3:

Casey James

Lee DeWyze

Crystal Bowersox

So that means, unfortunately, that Michael “Big Mike” Lynche was eliminated. We fell in love with his story, becoming a father in front of America, and now we love him as an artist. Goodbye, Mike! Hopefully, he follows in Chris Daughtry’s footsteps and becomes a successful artist after being #4 on Idol.

Lady Gaga performed her song Alejandro tonight on Idol. She started with a section from her song Bad Romance and continued on into Alejandro. She was wearing black lingerie and cover in fishnet stockings head to toe. She was surrounded by male dancers wearing only tight black shorts that went midway up their stomachs. The performance was accompanied by a lot of fog machines and a large statue of an angel. It was typical Lady Gaga, strange.

It was revealed that Crystal wears an insulin pump.

Harry Connick Jr., the mentor for the week, performed And I Love her. It was smooth and jazzy, not as good as the original, though. The contestants then joined Harry on stage and sang together while Harry played the piano.

The Bottom 2:

Michael Lynche

Aaron Kelly

The Idol journey is over for Aaron Kelly.

Next week, the remaining contestants will be performing songs from the cinema with Jamie Fox.

The guest mentor for the week was Shania Twain, a country music star who has managed to cross into pop. She has single-handily changed country music by becoming the biggest cross-over artist ever. She has 5 Grammys to prove it. All the performances will be one of her songs that has written and performed. She was a guest judge at the Chicago for the auditions.

Last week’s Idol Gives Back fundraiser brought in an incredible $45,000,000.

Lee DeWyze – You’re Still the One

Randy – “You found a way to make it your own.” “You did a pretty good job with it, dude.”

Ellen – “Every song you take, you make it your own.” “You couldn’t look cuter.”

Kara – “Look how far you’ve come.” “It was a good job.”

Simon – “That was absolutely the perfect song out of Shania’s catalog.” “You were pulling some kinda weird faces.”

Michael Lynch – It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing

Randy – “You did a great job and you’re really in the zone of who you are.”

Ellen – “It felt like Luther Vandross.” “I felt you’re emotion.” “Beautiful.”

Kara – “You changed it enough that you put your mark on it.”

Simon – “The performance was a little bit wet.” “It was a little bit girly for you.”

Casey James – Don’t

Randy – “This is one of the best Casey James performances ever.”

Ellen – “You sang that like that’s where you really belong.” “You’re best performance that you’ve done to date.”

Kara – “You didn’t hide, you didn’t cover it up with the guitar, you were vulnerable, you were raw, and that’s what you need to do and if you keep doing it you’ll be at the front of this competition.”

Simon – “You’re best performance so far.” “It didn’t feel like someone else’s song.”

Crystal Bowersox – No One Needs to Know

Randy – “It wasn’t my favorite performance.”

Ellen – “There’s nothing you can’t do.” “It was not my favorite performance of yours either but that’s like saying ‘what’s your least favorite color of the rainbow?’ You’re just brilliant and you’re always going to be good but it just wasn’t my favorite performance.”

Kara - “It was believable.” “You’re still amazing.”

Simon – “We don’t like Crystal this week.” “It was limp.” “I didn’t feel any conviction from you.”

Aaron Kelly – You’ve Got a Way

(Now we have to wonder, not that it’s a bog deal, but because Aaron changed a line in the song, “it’s in the way we make love” to “it’s in the way we show love,” is he a virgin. Hopefully at 17, he still is…props to him! He informed the judges that he was singing the song to his mom, how cute! Kind of creepy though…)

Randy – “This is your land. You’re our country artist on the show this year.”

Ellen – “The amount of emotion and depth that you showed when you sang that song just now, the maturity that you had to embrace those lyrics.

Kara - “It was like you really felt those words.”

Simon - “You were like a different artist.” “This is the kind of record…you should make.” “It felt believable.”

Siobhan Magnus – Any Man of Mine

Randy – “I loved it.”

Ellen – “Way to pull the Shania Twain into the station.” (Twain…sounds like train…)

Kara – “Guess who’s back!”

Simon - “It was almost like you were giving birth up there at the end. If you heard that note in isolation you would have thought something else was going on.” “It was fun.”

Captain Sullenberger (aka Captain Sulley) was in the audience tonight.

Casey James - Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac

Randy - “It was a good performance, it wasn’t your best performance.”

Ellen - “You’re consistently good but I don’t think anyone will be talking about that tomorrow.”

Kara - “It’s like jam-band.” “You made yourself like every body else tonight.”

Simon - “That wasn’t particularly inspiring, zero emotion.” “You just stood there and played the guitar again, sang the song pretty much like the original, umm, which meant there was no originality.”

Lee DeWyze - The Boxer by Simon And Garfunkel

Randy - “You are a great artist ready to make great music.” “You’re gonna have a big career.”

Ellen - “We’re seeing better and better from you which is surprising because I already think you’re great.”

Kara - “Simon said a few weeks back that you had you’re moment but I think you had it tonight.”

Simon - “Even though we’re only two in, that was the best of the night.” “That was sincere, it was emotional, it was inspirational.” “Absolutely brilliant.”

Tim Urban - Better Days by The Goo Goo Dolls

Randy – “It was like okay karaoke.” “You didn’t do anything with it.”

Ellen - “You’re like the soup of the day, sometime I like the soup and sometimes I don’t like the soup.” “Today, I didn’t like the soup.”

Kara - “I think this is where you belong but it wasn’t the best execution.” “It wasn’t your best performance.”

Simon - “I’m finding it quite difficult to believe this.” “You have improved over the weeks but it was a little bit of a let-down.”

Aaron Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly

Randy - “You did a good job with such a giant song.”

Ellen - “There was a brief time in the 70’s where I believed I could fly.” “I believe you can fly and you’re on your way.”

Kara - “By the end it was like, alright he got there.”

Simon - “If we’d had hear that on the radio, I would have turned it off within 10 seconds because it wasn’t very good.”

Siobhan Magnus – When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston

Randy - “It was just okay for me.”

Ellen - “That’s just more confirmation for why you’re here.”

Kara - “It’s not a musical and it started to feel very dramatic.” “I still don’t know who you are.”

Simon - “Not the right song for you.” “I found the whole thing to be a bit odd, a bit all over the place really, it’s a shame.”

Michael Lynche – Hero by Nickleback

Randy - “You held your own with it, dog, actually it worked out.”

Ellen - “Great job.”

Kara - “It wasn’t my favorite performance.” “The song became unrecognizable.”

Simon - “That was about Spiderman, wasn’t it?” “It felt a little artificial.”

Crystal Bowersox - People Get Ready by The Impressions

Randy - “The was unbelievable.”

Ellen - “You have never looked more beautiful.”

Kara – “Thank you so much for taking a risk and putting your guitar down. You’re on another level tonight.”

Simon -

Two contestants will be going home tonight and with no save available (used last week on Michael Lynche), they will be going home for sure. Over 34,000,000 votes were cast last night making that the record amount for this season.

Season 7’s Brooke White and Justin Gaston (Miley Cyrus’s ex-boyfriend) sang If I Can Dream. They did a phenomenal, beautiful rendition that probably would have made Elvis himself proud. The song can be downloaded for free on iTunes.

Also performing for America was Adam Lambert (last year’s runner-up) who was the mentor for the week. He performed his hit song What Do You Want From Me. The act was accompanied by a lot smoke and green laser lights. It was a pretty tame show from the guy who cause a lot of controversy at the 2009 AMAs. He did have on plenty of makeup on and blue tips on top of his very high hair.

Ryan brought the final two down to Michael Lynche and Katie Stevens and announced that one would be going home and the other wasn’t even in the bottom 3 tonight. Because of the save last week, the drama and tension was high in those few seconds before we found out who was safe.

Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens were not lucky tonight. Both were eliminated.

Next week the contestants will be singing ‘inspirational’ songs to celebrate Idol Gives Back. Also, Alicia Keys will be mentoring the contestants for the week.

Elvis was featured on the show tonight. He is the inspiration for the night. To get a feel for The King, the top nine took a trip to Vegas, walked the strip, and watched Cirque du Soleil. All songs performed will be one of Elvis’ tonight.

Adam Lambert was the mentor for the week. He’s the first contestant to ever return to be a mentor on the show. He can actually give a little more than some other mentors because he has been through the process where others have not. He knows what it’s like to be in front of the judges and can point the contestants in the right direction to please the judges. His advice for the contestants was to be more showy like the Elvis would have been. Adam definitely knows about being a showman.

Everyone needs to vote for this next elimination because two people are going home this week! Very important week to get those votes in!

Crystal Bowersox – Saved

Randy – “You have energy, it was dope. You’ve got this whole blues cool vibe going on, I thought I was listening to somebody’s record. You coulda been the second coming over like Bonnie Raitt or something.”

Ellen – “It was fantastic.”

Kara – “It was just another solid performance.”

Simon – “You didn’t choose an obvious song. You chose something that suited you.”

Andrew Garcia – Hound Dog

Randy – “That was definitely not good karaoke. I didn’t like it. I didn’t get it at all.”

Ellen – “I wish you had put a little more swagger into it.” “I thought you pulled it off.”

Kara – “I wanted to feel more from the performance.”

Simon – “It was lazy, unpredictable.” “It didn’t feel like the star performance.” All of your coolness is being sucked out of you right now.”

Tim Urban – Can’t Help Falling in Love

Randy – “I actually liked it.”

Ellen – “I can’t help falling in love with you, Tim.” “Beautiful.”

Kara – “Probably my favorite Tim performance ever. It was authentic, real, from your heart, current, singer-songwriter….”

Simon – “You have managed to go from zero to hero in two weeks.”

Lee DeWyze – A Little Less Conversation

Randy – “You were definitely in the zone.” “Another great, amazing performance.”

Ellen – “You made that so current. It really sounded like a brand new song.”

Kara – “You really went for it and I loved it.” “The vocal was fire.”

Simon – “That was on the money, full stop.”

Aaron Kelly - Blue Suede Shoes

Randy – “It started off kinda weird, I didn’t like the first half but when you broke into the high-time, the whole blues thing, I think it fit your voice better.”

Ellen – “I don’t think you got all the way there.”

Kara – “You’re out of your comfort zone and I like it.” “You seemed younger.”

Simon – “I don’t think it made you younger, I think it did the opposite.” “It was kinda what it was which is like somebody at a high school doing a concert at the end.” “It was very karaoke.”

Siobhan Magnus - Suspicious Minds

Randy – “That girl can sing right there.”

Ellen – “I like the second half a lot more than I like the first half.” “You really have a beautiful voice.”

Kara – “It’s getting confusing for me.” “I wasn’t crazy about it.”

Simon – “It was like you were put into a time machine and you came back in twenty years time, that’s what it came over. This was like a completely different person who I’d seen…” “The first part of the song was terrible.” “Very erratic, very screechy.”

Michael Lynche – In the Ghetto

Randy – “Those were hot vocals, baby! HOT! HOT!”

Ellen – “I’m glad we saved you.”

Kara – “Beautiful song and you definitely sang it well.”

Simon – “It was a million, billion times better than last week and one of my favorite performance you’ve done.”

Katie Stevens - Baby, What Do You Want Me To Do

Randy – “Nice vocals.”

Ellen – “It was a very horny song. A lot of horns in it.” “And you can sing, it was great.”

Kara – “I think you showed us judges.”

Simon - “I just found it very loud, a bit annoying.”

Casey James – Lawdy Miss Claudy

Randy – “I didn’t see anything different but it’s another solid performance from you.”

Ellen – “I love your voice, you look great, you look comfortable surrounded by a whole sea of women over there.” “It wasn’t as exciting as I would have liked to have seen but you’re always good.”

Kara – “That fell short to me.”

Simon – “A wasted opportunity with a song that was completely forgettable but your vocal was good.”

The contestants have to do well tonight if they want to go on tour for American Idol. Only the top 10 get to go. Who will it be?

Seventeen year old Miley Cyrus offered the contestants her opinions. She served as the mentor for the week. She may be qualified for the position since she has been doing it herself for so long now and also because her father is Billy Ray Cyrus, whom Casey James is a big fan of evidently. Although, some may argue that she is just a young, know-nothing teen. She sat in the audition for the show, chomping on the gum in her mouth. She will be performing on the results show tomorrow.

Lee Dewyze – The Letter by The Box Tops

Simon – “That, to me, was not a recording performance. That was you doing something quite corny.”

Randy – “You knocked it out of the box.”

Kara – “You’ve raised the bar for yourself. I’ve never heard you sound better, look more comfortable, you’re finally owning the stage.” “The progress is tremendous.” “Believe that you’re good.”

Ellen – “My favorite pen is back. That was fantastic.”

Paige Miles – Against All Odds by Phil Collins

Simon – “It was like there were 5 of you singing that some and it got progressively worse with each one.” “You stopped believing in yourself.”

Randy -”That was honestly terrible.” “There was nothing about it that was great.” “Nothing came together at all.”

Kara – “Somewhere along the line I think you stopped competing and you stopped listening to what we were saying.” “It was the worst vocal that I have heard from you and possibly the season.”

Ellen – “You didn’t fall down, and that is a good thing.” “You look stunning.”

Tim Urban – Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen

Simon – “It was completely and utterly pointless and silly.” “You’ve got zero chance of winning right now.”

Randy – “The vocals were so boring.” “It was like bad karaoke.”

Kara -”It was Zac Efron and Hairspray.” “Little girls will love that.” “You acted like you were already made it, you haven’t, you have a lot of work to do.”

Ellen – “It felt like it was audition for High School Musical.” “It was corny, pushed too hard.” “I didn’t get it.”

Aaron Kelly (with a case of laryngitis and tonsillitis) – I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith

Simon – “It was very brave.” “You’re making yourself old-fashioned.” “There is zero chance you are gonna go home.”

Randy – “It wasn’t a perfect performance.” “Thank God that you came on the stage and started singing because the 2 before you , I was like ‘what’s going on tonight?’ “ “You’re really talented.” “I’m a fan.”

Kara – “Best song choice of the night.” “You really know how to pick a song.”

Ellen – “That was a perfect song choice for you.” “You have such an amazing voice.” “I see your career already.”

Crystal Bowersox – Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin

Simon – “I wouldn’t change anything.” “I’ve heard Pink sing her version of that song which is one of the best versions I’ve heard and that was as good as that.” “You’re only gimmick is a carpet.”

Randy – “That what’s called being a star! And a dope singer! Right there, that’s the way you do it! You come out, play it, sing well, and it’s in your heart.”

Kara – “I wanna see you let go even more than this week.”

Ellen – “We’re missing a bit of personality.” “Take it in, these people love you, and respond.”

Michael Lynche – When A Man Loves A Woman by Michael Bolton

Simon – “It’s like you want one scoop of ice cream and you get 11.” “People like you.”

Randy – “You know who you are.” “I loved it.”

Kara – “Technically it was really good but I just felt it was boring and loungey at times.” “I lost my connection with you.”

Ellen – “It was like driving the speed limit.” “You have a amazing tone.” “This woman loves that man.”

Andrew Garcia – I Heard It Through the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye

Simon – “Maybe we just overrated that moment in hindsight.” (referring to his audition of Straight Up) “You sucked the soul out of that song. You did. Suck it out and tortured it and ruined one of great pop songs of all time.”

Randy – “It wasn’t good.” “It was the wrong song choice.” “It didn’t work.”

Kara – “I feel bad for you.” “You don’t know what to do up there, you’re really confused, and that’s what I’m getting from you.” “I don’t know who that was.”

Ellen – “That was not enough to get a whole lot of people on board that are teetering right now.”

Katie Stevens – Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie

Simon – “I don’t think it’s in your head to be what you want to be.” “It was a good performance.”

Randy – “You actually listened to us.”

Kara – “This is your vibe.”

Ellen – “It was your best performance so far.” “You’re evolving. You’re like the Dakota Fanning of American Idol.”

Casey James – The Power of Love by Huey Lewis

Simon – “That song was old fashion 20 years ago.” “There was no effort, no originality.” “Maybe it’s just me, I’m English.”

Randy – “I wasn’t a fan of the song choice.” “You definitely did it well.”

Kara – “You’re just on another level.” “You’re just ready to make an album.”

Ellen – “Best vocal of the night. I thought you sounded great.”

Didi Benami - You’re No Good by Linda Ronstadt

Simon – “There was a sort of certain irony, you screeching out ‘you’re no good.’ “ “It was like a musical, the bad part.” “It didn’t sound like it was you.”

Randy – “It never quite caught. You never got the pitch right.”

Kara – “I felt like you were playing a character. It felt very dramatic almost.” “It didn’t feel like it was you.” “It left me confused.”

Ellen – “Not the right song choice.”

Siobhan Magnus – Superstition by Stevie Wonder

Simon – “Some people will like it and, I’m afraid, a lot of people won’t.” “You gotta start pushing yourselves.”

Randy – “You’re so fearless.” “I loved it, man.”

Kara - “You express yourself every time you perform.” “I don’t think it was your best.”

Ellen – “More please!” “You’re just so good.”

Tempers between Simon and Ryan got heated when Ryan got in Simon’s face about giving constructive criticism to Michael Lynche.

Michael Lynche -Miss You

Simon – “The performance, particularly the dancing, was corny.” “You sang it well.” “It was verging, at times, on a little bit desperate.”

Kara – “I just thought, you know, that’s what this is all about, conveying the message of the song but being on hot on stage, and you did that! And I really liked it!”

Randy – “It reminded me how great of a performer you’ve become.”

Ellen – “That’s the way to start the night! Amazing! Good. Good. Good.”

Didi Benami -Play With Fire

Simon – “Very cool choice of song.” “Solid, not brilliant, performance.”

Kara – “I saw an intensity.” “You’re moving toward who you are as an artist.”

Randy – “For the first time in weeks, Didi, you’re on fire.”

Ellen – “You made the word ‘fire’ two syllables and I think that’s gr-eat!”

Casey James – It’s All Over Now

Simon – “That was like an audition performance.” “You got to push yourself.” ” You are a very, very good artist.”

Kara -”You were a rock star.” “This shows your soul.” “This was your best performance since we met.”

Randy – “I loved it! You are back for me!”

Ellen – “It was fantastic.”

Lacey Brown – Ruby Tuesday

Simon – “You perform like an actress, everything is just really really precise.” “Nothing wrong with the vocals.” “Stop over-thinking this.”

Kara – “It was 50/50.” “You didn’t hit the notes right.” “You could have put more into it.”

Randy – “Very interesting.” “I was jumping up and down vocally.” “You kinda held it together.”

Ellen – “You like to sit on the edge of things, don’t go to the Grand Canyon.” “It was a little sleepy.”

Andrew Garcia – Gimme Shelter

Simon – “Something didn’t quite connect in the song.”

Kara – “It’s the connection that bothered me the most.” “I wanted more intensity.”

Randy – “It was just pitchy everywhere, honestly it wasn’t good.”

Ellen – “I think that was your best performance yet.”

Katie Stevens – Wild Horses

Simon – “This is the only week where you have actually chosen a really strong song.” “You gave it a 100%, well done.”

Kara – “You made nice variations on the melody.”

Randy – “You that really well.” “Strong performance.”

Ellen – “You sounded amazing.” “Good choice.”

Tim Urban – Under My Thumb

Simon – “It didn’t work.” “It was a crazy decision.”

Kara – “I have to applaud you for doing something so incredibly different with the song.” “You made it your own.”

Randy – “I didn’t get that, dude. It was kind of bizarre.” “I didn’t understand.”

Ellen – “It was a cool take-off on it.” “It was a little laying on the beach, laying back, and hearing a cool song.”

Siobhan Magnus – Paint It, Black

Simon – “Best performance of the night.” “You look interesting.” “You had a good night.”

Kara – “I’m having flashback of Adam Lambert. The stairs and the drama. The best interpretation tonight.”

Randy – “Bringing the drama to American Idol! Siobhan, that was HOT!”

Ellen – “You rise above.” “You just stand out.”

Lee Dewyze -Beast of Burden

Simon – “You have got an incredibly good voice.” “Stop thinking other people are better than you.”

Kara – “The energy was a little low.” “Tremendous growth.”

Randy – “You came home with this.” “Cross between Rob Thomas and Dave Mathews. Dude, I thought it was dope.”

Ellen – “I was expecting a tiny bit more from you.”

Paige Miles – Honky Tonk Woman (Has had laryngitis this week!)

Simon – “You’re better than that.” “You still have to find something that makes you unique.”

Kara – “The young Paige is back.”

Randy – “You did alright with it.” “I liked it.”

Ellen – “You have such great presence on stage.”

Aaron Kelly - Angie (His mom’s name is Kelly Kelly…oh dear!)

Simon – “You chose absolutely 100% the right song.” “You sang the song within the limits of you vocals.” “It was one of your strongest performances.”

Kara – “You showed me, man, tonight!”

Randy – “You were defiantly born to sing.” “I could almost hear a little Justin Timberland.”

Ellen – “Beautiful!”

Crystal Bowersox -You Can’t Always Get What You Want

Simon – “You chose a song that didn’t have what you needed.”

Kara – “You’re just so comfortable.”

Randy – “I love you, you are always great.” “It wasn’t my favorite performance.”

Ellen – “It’s so effortless.” “Let yourself have fun on stage.”
