The 7th round of auditions for season 9 comes back to Denver, Colorado where in season 5, Chris Daughtry was discovered.  If there was any doubt that American Idol actual does find talent, Daughtry is the evidence.  While he was eliminated from the competition, he conquered the music world.  He was signed by RCA Records and formed the group “Daughtry.”  Their self-titled debut album became the fastest selling rock debut album in music history.  Daughtry is the third most sucessful discovery to come out of American Idol.  They fall just behind Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, both of who won their seasons of Idol.

Daughtry currently has 20 #1 hits and went platinum 4 times.

Victoria Beckham, for the second time this season, is the guest judge.  Once again, it is a joy to have her on the panel!  She gets along well with all the judges so how about we switch Ellen for Victoria?

The Good (15 through on day 1, 11 on day 2)

First up on day one was a Jack Black look-a-like, Mark Labriola, 28, from Aurora, CO.  When he was a child, his mother stole him away from his father and they traveled around, hiding from authorities and Mark’s father.  At 10 years old he was reunited with his father, a happy ending.  His audition was enjoyable and the judges were surprised.  Its a good start to the day!

Kimberly Kerbow, 24, from Marina Del Ray, CA, brought her cute little 5 year old daughter with her.  She should be proud of her mother because she made it through to Hollywood even after telling Simon she would buy him Rogain.  Simon sent her through by telling her, “you are very lippy but you’re very funny…I think you are trouble, though.”  After Kimberly left the room, there was talk about her wearing a wig.  Her hair did look a little too shiny and unnatural.

Danelle Hayes, 24, from Seattle, WA, came into the room and being to cry because of the long journey she has taken pursuing her dream of singing.  Kara said she gave the most moving audition and Simon said that she came in just in time to rescue her from corporate hell.

A motorcycle accident almost stopped Casey James, 27, from Fort Worth, TX, from ever playing a guitar, but even with day-to-day pain, he was able to continue to play.  He’s a cute little country boy that caused a rift between the judges.  Simon stopped him and told him that it was a bad audition.  Victoria asked him to remove his pony-tail and down came his shoulder-length hair…and a real nice looking, blue eyed boy.  Kara told him that he needs to work on his personality and then asked him to remove his shirt, which he did (not too impressive, though).  For the girls, Randy gave him a yes and he was going to Hollywood.

Simon continued his misalignment with the other judges when Tori Kelly, 16, from Canyon Lake, CA, came in and buttered up the judges by bring in one of her supporters, little Hope Starr.  She had drawn pictures of the judges to give to them.  Hope sat with Victoria while Tori sang.  While the other judges really liked her, Simon called her voice, “almost annoying.”  Victoria liked the way she looked, her whole package, she said she was, “the best, best, best of the day.”

A long way from home, traveling all the way from Florence, Italy (14 hour flight with a stop in between), was Nicci Nix, 22.  Her speaking voice was so high pitched that Victoria wanted to know if she had inhaled any helium.  Luckily, her singing voice was deeper and fabulous.  Simon called her, “a funny little thing.”  Victoria liked her skin.

The touching story for the day was Haeley Vaughn, 16, from Fort Collins, CO.  She was born premature and weighed 2lbs.  Her father passed away when she was 10 years old.  She wants to be the first, “black-pop-country-kinda-main-stream singer.”  The judges loved her dream and her individuality.

The Bad

Dressed in a large green trench coat with a constant nervous laugh, the next contestant was Mario Galvan, 25, from Denver, CO.  He attempted a rendition of “Jailhouse Rock.”  Simon just rolled his eye.

Dumb jock, Austin Paul, 22, from Washington, DC, should stick to his long snapping duties.  He thinks that he is a songwriter and singer but the judges didn’t agree.  Kara wasn’t even impressed when he grabbed his pecks!  Victoria called him arrogant because of his choice of lyrics, “bigger than my body,” she said it made her itchy.

Kenny Everett, 24, from Durham, NC left his mouth open a little too long, letting his horrible “awwwwwwws” out.  Simon said it sounded like he’d been punched.  Kenny strongly disagreed with the judges’ no’s and wouldn’t shut up.

To top off all bad audition in the history of American Idol, Bikini Boy showed up!  Ty Hemmerling, 25, from Denver, CO, actually showed up in a multicolor, triangle-top, stripped bikini.  His occupation read, “Bikini Model.”  Obviously not a serious audition, Bikini Boy didn’t even know the words to “Achy Breaky Heart,” so the judges just walked out.

Somewhere in there a naked person ran through…
