Tempers between Simon and Ryan got heated when Ryan got in Simon’s face about giving constructive criticism to Michael Lynche.
Michael Lynche -Miss You
- Simon – “The performance, particularly the dancing, was corny.” “You sang it well.” “It was verging, at times, on a little bit desperate.”
- Kara – “I just thought, you know, that’s what this is all about, conveying the message of the song but being on hot on stage, and you did that! And I really liked it!”
- Randy – “It reminded me how great of a performer you’ve become.”
- Ellen – “That’s the way to start the night! Amazing! Good. Good. Good.”
Didi Benami -Play With Fire
- Simon – “Very cool choice of song.” “Solid, not brilliant, performance.”
- Kara – “I saw an intensity.” “You’re moving toward who you are as an artist.”
- Randy – “For the first time in weeks, Didi, you’re on fire.”
- Ellen – “You made the word ‘fire’ two syllables and I think that’s gr-eat!”
Casey James – It’s All Over Now
- Simon – “That was like an audition performance.” “You got to push yourself.” ” You are a very, very good artist.”
- Kara -”You were a rock star.” “This shows your soul.” “This was your best performance since we met.”
- Randy – “I loved it! You are back for me!”
- Ellen – “It was fantastic.”
Lacey Brown – Ruby Tuesday
- Simon – “You perform like an actress, everything is just really really precise.” “Nothing wrong with the vocals.” “Stop over-thinking this.”
- Kara – “It was 50/50.” “You didn’t hit the notes right.” “You could have put more into it.”
- Randy – “Very interesting.” “I was jumping up and down vocally.” “You kinda held it together.”
- Ellen – “You like to sit on the edge of things, don’t go to the Grand Canyon.” “It was a little sleepy.”
Andrew Garcia – Gimme Shelter
- Simon – “Something didn’t quite connect in the song.”
- Kara – “It’s the connection that bothered me the most.” “I wanted more intensity.”
- Randy – “It was just pitchy everywhere, honestly it wasn’t good.”
- Ellen – “I think that was your best performance yet.”
Katie Stevens – Wild Horses
- Simon – “This is the only week where you have actually chosen a really strong song.” “You gave it a 100%, well done.”
- Kara – “You made nice variations on the melody.”

Tim Urban – Under My Thumb
- Simon – “It didn’t work.” “It was a crazy decision.”
- Kara – “I have to applaud you for doing something so incredibly different with the song.” “You made it your own.”
- Randy – “I didn’t get that, dude. It was kind of bizarre.” “I didn’t understand.”
- Ellen – “It was a cool take-off on it.” “It was a little laying on the beach, laying back, and hearing a cool song.”

- Randy – “Bringing the drama to American Idol! Siobhan, that was HOT!”

- Simon – “You have got an incredibly good voice.” “Stop thinking other people are better than you.”
- Kara – “The energy was a little low.” “Tremendous growth.”

Paige Miles – Honky Tonk Woman (Has had laryngitis this week!)
