Pia Toscano
Tonight was the ladies’ night to shine. Some did, some really didn’t. Randy seems to be taking Simon‘s former role at being booed the most but that’s only because Randy will tell you what he really thinks. Jennifer might be a little too soft-hearted and to be mean and Steven, who knows what planet he’s on most of the time!
Ta-Tynisa Wilson – “Only Girl In the World” Ta-Tynisa version of this song was quiet and not strong. She looked adorable but she wasn’t rocking the song well. Tyler said he liked it a lot. Jennifer said that it started off shaky. Randy said it was just okay and it paled in comparison to the original. It’s becoming
Naima Adedapo – “Summertime” Evidently, Naima designed the dress that she was wearing tonight. Interesting. She sang great tonight and had good, kinda strange, stage presence. She really pulled the crowd in. All this and it was still a little boring. Jennifer called her an exotic flower. Randy called it loungy. Steven said he liked it a lot.
Kendra Chantelle – “Impossible” Kendra is the package. Blonde, beautiful, and she can sing. She made it sound and look effortless. Randy loved her bravado. Steven said she’s the whole package. Jennifer said she has heart and that she belongs here. Hopefully, the performance was memorable enough to grab lots of votes.
Rachel Zevita -”Criminal” This girl is strange. She does have an interesting voice but it’s difficult to watch her perform. She was very theatrical in an annoying way. Tyler said it was a little too Broadway. Randy said it wasn’t good and it didn’t work.
Karen Rodriguez – “Hero” This cute latin lady did a good job and it was strong. But the switching from English to Spanish made you lose what the song is about, it just became broken. I didn’t like it. It wasn’t anything special. Jennifer got goosebumps from listening to it but, really, not that amazing, girl. Randy said that she made it her own. Steven thought she was fantastic. Still didn’t like her.
Lauren Turner – “Seven Day Fool” Wow! Finally, someone worthy of representing America! Loved it. She had power and it kept my attention from being to end. She may not be the best looking girl up there but at least she was GOOD! And this is a singing contest not a beauty contest! She is cute, though, don’t get me wrong. Randy said, “That’s how you do it!” He loved the bluesy-soul in her voice. Steven loved it and Jennifer said her voice is undeniable, but she wanted her to go over the top.
Ashton Jones – “Love Over Me” Another great performance. She is the whole package. There’s nothing I can find to say bad about her. Steven said she has the confidence of a queen. Jennifer said she has all the makings of a diva. She is breathtaking. Randy didn’t love the song and felt something different for her but he still enjoyed it. She did a fabulous job.
Julie Zorrilla – “Break Away” This girl has great star-quality. She is beautiful and has a great fashion sense. It would be great if she could have sung as well as she looked. It wasn’t very good. Pitchy then flat then pitchy. She obviously very nervous. Jennifer didn’t feel that she really connected to the words and she needed more from her. Randy said she didn’t sing it not nearly as good as Kelly Clarkson. She needs to make the song her own. Steven wanted her to take it up a couple keys.
Haley Reinhart – “Fallin’ ” She made the song as sexy as Alicia Keys did. Haley’s voice is unique to the group of kids this season. She’s a very cute girl so the song and the performance worked for her but I’m not sure that she worked the song as well as she could have. A couple times she sounded a little whinny and then a little Betty-Boopish. Randy said it didn’t do anything for her and it was a little karaoke. Steven thought it was sexy and it was great. Jennifer, no surprise, agreed with Steven.
Thia Megia – “Out Here On My Own” Fifteen?! It’s incredible that this girl with this powerful voice is only fifteen! The downside to her singing such a depressing song is that she aged herself instead of saying young and fun and connecting to the younger audience. She did a phenomenal job, though! Tyler said she had perfect pitch and couldn’t believe she is only 15. Jennifer called it captivating. Randy said her tone reminded him of the late-great Michael Jackson. Her performance was breathtaking, and she is adorable, too!
Lauren Alaina – “Turn On the Radio” Her performance was effortless and entertaining. She worked the audience and they enjoyed it. She was believable and obviously having fun with it. Jennifer called her effortless and a natural. Randy said she reminds him of a mix between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. I can totally see that. At the end of her judging, Lauren declared Ryan’s new name of “Peaches.” So cute.
Pia Toscano – “I’ll Stand By You” FINALLY! THAT’S HOW IT’S DONE! Wow! They saved the best for last. Pia is gorgeous and she can sing! She didn’t need to use any gimmicks to get the crowd going, she was amazing all by herself. I think she may be the next American Idol! She received the first standing ovation of the season. Randy was very excited, “that’s how you do it!” Steven, what an odd dude, said, “After Monday and Tuesday, even a week says WTF.” Okay, that is actually very funny! Jennifer thought it was out of this world. Yup, I’m predicting a winner. She blew everyone, even the boys, outta the water!
Tomorrow night we will find out who continues and who must go byebye!
