Okay guys – what gives? Up until now speculation has been that a male would take top honors this year and I wholly agreed. If tonight is any indication as to how the season is going to go then the guys have a long road ahead of them. I’m going to chalk it up to nerves – first time in front of a live audience (their peers in the previous Hollywood rounds don’t count) and the first time they’re up for voting by America. I can tell you though that my pick for top six males is looking kind of shaky right now.
Thankfully we had Blake Lewis to give us a bit of something to listen to; he was smart and kept the beat boxing in his pocket. Lewis performed “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane. Randy Jackson felt that Lewis did a good job and he likes that he is “so different.” Paula Abdul was “really proud” of Lewis praising that “we saw a different side of you…your vocals were spot on.” Simon Cowell chimed in with a backhanded compliment starting off with “not the best vocals I’ve ever heard” but continuing on to say the “the difference between you and everyone else is you sound like 2007” and stating that Lewis’ performance was the best of the night.
