Round 2: The Boys Go First; Crystal Bowersox in the Hopsital

Normally, the girls would have performed first for the week but because Crystal Bowersox was taken to the hospital earlier in the day, the boys are going first.  An anonymous source from Fox said that it was a serious health problem.  Doctors told her that she wouldn’t be able to perform tonight but is scheduled to sing tomorrow, Wednesday, with the remaining girls.

Once again this week, the 2 guys and the 2 girls with the lowest amounts of votes will be ousted.

Here’s how the boys’ performances went…

Michael “Big Mike” Lynche -This is a Man’s World by James Brown

• Simon – “What a difference!”  “It didn’t sound dated.”  “This is, by far, the best performance you have given…”
• Kara – “Tonight, you went from being a singer to someone who could potentially be a great artist.  You owned it.”
• Ellen – “Everybody, now, has to top that.  That was fantastic.”
• Randy – “I gotta give it to you!” (With a standing ovation) “Crazy, unbelievable.  An R&B star, right there.”

John Park – Gravity by John Mayer

• Simon – “There’s nothing to get excited about that.”  “I think in 20 minutes time, we’re going to forget that performance.”
• Kara – “When you’re singing it, I don’t always believe it.”  “I want to see you take some risks.”
• Ellen – “There could have been a little more soul in it.”
• Randy – “You didn’t bring anything new or kind of spicy to it.”  “I just didn’t see anything special about it.”

Casey James - I Don’t Want to Be by Gavin DeGraw

• Simon – “You turned into somebody you would see in any bar across American, somebody trying to be a rockstar.”
• Kara -  “You took 2 steps backwards.”  “You didn’t hit everything.”
• Ellen – “On paper, everything is there.  I love  your look, I love the way you sound.  But there’s a stiffness about you…I want to see you perform more.”
• Randy – “I didn’t know you played the guitar like that!  Dude, that was hot!”

Alex Lambert -  Everybody Know by John Legend

• Simon – “I don’t get the feeling, at the moment, that you are taking part to win.”
• Kara – “People would die to have that tone.”  “Great improvement.”
• Ellen – “Such a great voice, under that mullet there’s a little Sam Cooke voice.”  “Of everybody here, you have the most unique style.”
• Randy – “This is such an improvement over last week.”  “I really enjoyed that.”  “Way legit tonight.”

Todrick Hall – What’s Love Got to do With It by Tina Turner

• Simon – “Move but don’t sing cause this is not working out for you.”  “It was just one of those performances I’ve had the misfortune to see at a theme park.”  “Corny, bad version of a Tina Turner song.”  “You are getting this completely and utterly wrong.”
• Kara – “I don’t get it, what happened to Todrick?”
• Ellen – “Sing and move.”  “I don’t think it was the right song.”
• Randy – “I didn’t love this.  Just sing a nice song and sing it.”  “Just sing for once.”

Jermaine Sellers – What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye

• Simon – “We’re frustrated and disappointed.”  “You water down the songs.”
• Kara – “You’re always doing too much.”  “It feels forced.”
• Ellen – “It just didn’t work for me.”
• Randy – “It was just so close but so far at the same time.”  “It just wasn’t a great performance.”

• Simon – “It’s just okay, and you’re better than okay.”  “I’m disappointed still in you.”
• Kara – “It’s kind of been going down.”  “You gotta surprise us.”  “You played it too safe.”
• Ellen – “I liked it a lot.”  “I’m thinking about getting your name tattooed on my neck.”
• Randy – “Honestly, that wasn’t the vibe for you tonight.”  “I didn’t get it, dude, it wasn’t good for me.”

Aaron Kelly - My Girl by The Temptations

• Simon – “I didn’t like the song.  It was all over the place.”  “It’s too old fashioned.”
• Kara – “Every time you step on that stage, it’s consistent.”  “I really like you.”
• Ellen – “The song was a little forgettable.”  “You definitely have a great voice.”
• Randy – “You can really sing.”  “Nice one, Aaron!”

Tim Urban – Come On Get Higher by Matt Nathanson

• Simon – “That was a marked performance from last week.”  “You were more relevant tonight than a lot of the singer we’ve seen before.”  “I’m really impressed by your attitude and your work ethic.”
• Kara – “I liked the song choice.”  “You didn’t make it your own.”  “You look the part, you play the part, but its not there yet.”
• Ellen – “There’s no stage presence.”  “You’re so adorable, and if you act, you’re got it made.”
• Randy – “I didn’t really get it.  It was very karaoke.”

Lee Dewyze – Lips of An Angel by Hinder

• Simon -  “You are head and shoulders above everyone else.”  “You look terrified right now.”
• Kara -  “It was a big improvement.”  “I could hear you on the radio right now.”
• Ellen – “It came out as a great performance because you were just really in that song.”
• Randy – “I liked it!”
